YELLOWSTONE ROAD TRIP · FLYING INTO SLC

Flying into Salt Lake and driving up to Yellowstone? Grab your internet before you hit the road.

Yellowstone is one of the most disconnected national parks in the country — almost the entire park has no cell service at all. Most visitors fly into Salt Lake City International Airport and rent a car for the drive north, which makes SLC the perfect place to pick up a Starlink before you go, instead of hoping for signal once you're already there.

The Problem

Why a Yellowstone trip needs a backup connection

Almost the entire park has no service

Yellowstone is famous for it — cell coverage exists only in a handful of tiny developed areas like Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, and Canyon Village, and even those are unreliable.

Flying into SLC and the long drive north

Since most visitors fly into Salt Lake City and rent a car for the roughly 5-hour drive to West Yellowstone, picking up a Starlink in SLC means you're covered for the entire trip — not just once you arrive.

Lodges & cabins outside the park

Whether you're staying in West Yellowstone, Gardiner, or a cabin further out, lodging near the park often has spotty coverage too, especially once the town's limited towers get busy in peak season.

Combining with Grand Teton

Many SLC-to-Yellowstone road trips swing through Grand Teton National Park on the way — which has similarly unreliable cell coverage of its own.

Common Questions

Planning your trip

We're flying into SLC airport — can we pick up the Starlink right away?

Yes — pickup is based in Salt Lake City, easy to coordinate right around your flight before you start the drive north. Just message us with your arrival details and we'll work out timing.

How long is the drive from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone?

Roughly 5 hours to West Yellowstone, a bit longer to the South Entrance near Grand Teton. Either way, it's a long enough drive that having your own internet along the way (and once you arrive) makes a real difference.

Will it work inside the park itself?

It needs a reasonably open view of the sky, which most of Yellowstone's open valleys and meadows (like Hayden Valley or Lamar Valley) have in abundance. Compared to having zero service at all, it's a dramatic improvement almost anywhere you set it up.

We're also visiting Grand Teton — does it help there too?

Yes — the same portable setup covers both parks on one trip, which is especially useful for the Mini since it travels easily between stops.

Can we rent for a longer, multi-day trip?

Yes — our weekly rate is $150 for 7 days, and for longer Yellowstone-and-beyond road trips, we're happy to work out an extended-rental rate. Just message us with your dates.
